HIDE AND GO SEEK
How many of you remember the childhood game Hide and Go Seek. I have played this game plenty of times in my neighborhood growing up. The strategy of the game is to seek and reveal the person who was hiding. Well, in these chapters of Joshua it epitomizes the essence of this game. In this story, Joshua, acouragous warriorhas been directed by God to march around the city of Jericho with all the men of war, one time for six days. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times and the city walls will collapse. God told Joshua “I have handed Jericho, its king, and it’s fighting men over to you.” However, God told them to keep themselves from the things set apart, or they will be set apart for destruction. To make the long story short, the Israelites were unfaithful regarding those things that were set apart for destruction. A man named Achan took some of what was set apart, and the Lord’s anger burned against the Israelites. So much that the Israelites lost a battle against Ai; a battle that was supposed to have been a victory for the Israelites. Joshua was very upset, upset to the point that he tore his clothes and fell before the ark of the Lord. Not knowing why they lost, Joshua began to question God “Oh, Lord God, why did You ever bring these people across the Jordan to hand us over to the Amorites for our destruction.” God responded and said “Israel has sinned, they have taken some of what was set apart.” I know you are probably wandering, what on God’s green earth does this have to do with Hide and Go Seek…? I was just setting the stage for this moment right here. God explained how to seek and reveal who has taken the things that were set apart; Present yourselves tribe by tribe, clan by clan, family by family and lastly, man by man. So, Joshua woke up early that next morning and followed the orders of God. Through the process, Achan was revealed. Joshua made these strong thought provoking words towards Achan…”don’t hide anything from me.” Are we hiding any secret sins? Sins that we have buried in the depths of our emotions and heart! Just like Joshua and Achan, God wants us to search, seek, and reveal our secret sins so they may be destroyed from our lives forever. Let’s seek what’s hidden!!! Be Blessed!
